WPSO’s mission is to enhance opportunities for a dynamic change in the lives of women prisoners, ex-prisoners and children of prisoners, and ensuring that civil and human rights for all women prisoners are met.
WPSO program services make it possible for women prisoner to rebuild their families and relationships, and obtain education, housing, life skills and healthcare and to participate fully in civic life.
WPSO is actively engaged in promoting awareness and advocating for the rights of prisoners as set out in the standard Minimum Rules for Treatment of Prisoners adopted by the United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of offenders.
WPSO is making concerted efforts to provide help across the board to all segments of prisoners’ particularly women and juveniles prisoners who are incarcerated for petty offences. These persons are abused physically, mentally, emotionally and their basic rights are infringed with impunity particularly when they are in custody. Human rights and sustainable development share a common perception and goals i.e. to secure a well being of a prisoner and therefore interdependent and mutually reinforcing.
