Working Bikes Store
By buying a bicycle from the Working Bikes Cooperative you help save the planet by keeping it out of the landfill and help fund our program to send bikes to needy areas of the world.
Location:
2434 S. Western Ave
Chicago, IL 60608
(773) 847-5440 (storefront)
Bicycle Sales Hours:
HOURS, current as of May 2012 ...
Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon until 7pm
Fridays and Saturdays from noon until 5pm
Please note: During the summer months demand is high and our stock of bicycles sells out usually. Arrive early to see the best selection.
Being mainly volunteer run, we do not have the resources to answer real time inventory questions, in case you decide to call. Please stop by, and hopefully you find what you are looking for, be that a bicycle, or an organization for you to bless with your time and energy as a volunteer.
Thank you.
What we offer:
We offer a range of recycled bicycles but the most common are:
- Vintage single-speed and 3-speed cruisers; especially Schwinn but also many Raleigh and other European brands.
- Lightweight (and heavyweight) road bikes (Schwinn Varsity/Continental, Raleigh, Peugeot)
- Some Mountain Bikes and BMX bikes (Trek, Giant, Mongoose)
- Classic (cantilever frame fat tire) cruisers (Roadmaster, Ross)
Cost of our bicycles:
Prices start from around $100 and depend upon the original value of the bicycle and its present condition. All bikes have been made roadworthy by our volunteers and staff. They are affordable and guaranteed ready-to-ride.
How it works:
Come in during sale hours and browse our selection. If you do not find a bicycle you like come back because new bikes come in regularly. When you find the bike you want look for a price tag.
We accept cash or credit card.
Please do NOT:
- Ask to part out a bicycle. If you want a part from a bike, you can purchase the entire bike and remove the parts elsewhere. We're more than happy to take the stripped parts back in donation.
Please Note: We now have a service department to make repairs or install accessories or components not already a part of the bike. Our volunteers and staff will be more than happy to help you.
Proceeds from the sales go directly to the costs of shipping bicycles to places in need.
Please see the About Working Bikes page for more information.
