Volunteer
Working Bikes desperately needs volunteers to repair bicycles, prepare and pack bikes for shipping overseas, organize and help customers in the Working Bikes Store, pick up donations, network with other organizations, and help spread the word.
By volunteering your time at Working Bikes you aid an organization that is doing good work both locally and internationally.
All volunteers should subscribe to our mailing list to keep abreast of current events at Working Bikes.
Lunch is usually provided to volunteers at Working Bikes operations.
Mechanics:
Bicycles sold in the storefront or given to local charities must be put in working order and currently the demand for Working Bikes bikes far exceeds our ability to repair them. We are in urgent need of people to increase the rate at which we can repair bicycles.
The Working Bikes Cooperative needs mechanics of all skill levels. If you only know how to repair tires we can use you. Simply go to or call the store during business hours let a volunteer or staff member know that you wish to volunteer.
Storefront operations:
Working Bikes needs people at the store to prepare the store for the day, bring bikes to and from the warehouse, assist customers in finding a bike, and fitting and performing final adjustments on bikes for customers.
Follow the same procedure as for mechanics if you wish to work in the storefront: go to the store during business hours and talk with the volunteers and staff working there.
Shipping Parties and other events:
Working Bikes ships more than 5,000 bicycles to places in need (for more information, see About Working Bikes). These bicycles need to be readied for shipping and loaded into the containers. We regularly hold shipping parties to do this work. The parties are announced on our mailing list and on this website. If you wish to participate simply show up at the announced time and lend a hand. No technical skills are required.
Other events are also announced on the mailing list and website that volunteers are encouraged to attend. Please check the specifics in the announcements to see what is required.
Large groups (Youth Ministries, etc):
We can accommodate volunteer coordinators who may be looking for service hour opportunities. Most likely the groups will be preparing bikes for shipping but we have other tasks that they can do as well. Please contact us if you are interested.
