Napervillee Reuse and Recycle Extravaganza

The City of Naperville on June 5 will hold a collection of items that can be redistributed and reused by others.

Residents of Naperville and nearby communities may drop off items at no charge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Alcatel-Lucent, 1960 Lucent Lane , Naperville . Volunteers will be at different stations to help unload the items from residents' vehicles.

According to a news release from the city, the event is a way to gather materials for organizations that can use them to meet a particular need.

The following items will be accepted: computers, monitors, printers, speakers, televisions (no console televisions) , VCRs, DVD players, stereos, radios, cameras, camcorders, fax machines, discs and cords, metal pipes, rusty swing sets, metal lawn furniture, tomato cages, wire hangers, chicken wire, hardware, vacuum cleaners and toasters, books, bicycles and bicycle parts, shoes, non-broken eyeglasses, hearing aids and keys, buttons for clothing, rulers, tattered American flags, ink jet cartridges (not laser or toner), and cell phones.

Non-acceptable items include appliances, VHS tapes, floppy discs, household hazardous waste, construction material, lawnmowers, tires, console TVs, air conditioners, batteries and paint.

Collected computer hard drives will be wiped clean or destroyed, and any data on a hard drive will not be recoverable by any method.

Working bikes will be donated to the Working Bikes Cooperative and shipped to Third World countries.

Shoes donated should be in good condition and will be given to Share Your Soles, a group that provides shoes to needy children and adults in impoverished areas of the world.

Eyeglasses and hearing aids will be donated to the Naperville Noon Lions Club. The American flags will be accepted by the Naperville VFW.
