GAA's "Year of the Orphan" Event
Working Bikes Partner Global Alliance for Africa (GAA) will host a kick-off event for the Year of the Orphanat Av Aerie at 2000 W. Fulton in Chicago.
Working Bikes will have a booth at the event. Linda of GAA describes the event:
"On today, World AIDS Day 2008, I am writing to invite you and your students to the first-ever Global Alliance Students for Africa Chicago Event.
At this event, set for December 17, 2008, we will launch the “Year of the Orphan” – a series of programs and initiatives focused on lifting orphans and vulnerable children out of poverty and creating new opportunities and better choices for these children. Global Alliance for Africa’s work focuses on children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. It is our response to the pandemic – a positive response that focuses on economic strengthening and education to create positive change.
The theme for this year’s World AIDS Day as set by UNAIDS is “Leadership.” As the program officer for educational initiatives, I am very encouraged by the energy and ideology of students, my own children included. It is essential to capitalize on this energy and ideology. The future is in the hands of these leaders and the problems of the world will soon be in their laps. We invite their response to these issues.
Thanks very much.
