The Whole Foods Market in the south loop, at 1101 S. Canal Street, Chicago, IL 60607 is hosting a bike drive for Working Bikes on Earth Day.

"In honor of Earth Day 2012, Whole Foods Market South Loop is hosting a bike donation drive in our front parking lot (off of Roosevelt St.). Working Bikes, a Pilsen-based bike recycling cooperative, will be collecting your used bikes in all conditions; your donations will ...be fixed-up and donated to individuals in Chicago and beyond who will benefit from having the transportation of a bicycle.

To get you pumped, our friends at New Belgium Brewery will be kicking things off on Saturday April 21st with samples, games, swag, and PRIZES in celebration of Bike season and their newest Pale Ale, SHIFT which comes in a 16oz can. Hooray!

27 extra used wheels
15 boxes of used parts (without the boxes).

We will load 500 bicycles for the Centro Salvadoreño de Tecnologia Apropiada (CESTA), Friends of the Earth El Salvador.

The majority of these bicycles were provided by the Campus Bike Project of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.

Working Bikes will be participating in the 7th annual Bike Rodeo, sponsored by the Warrenville Park District and City of Warrenville.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 19 from 9:00am until noon - at the Warrenville City Hall, in the Parking Lot Complex.

Last year we collected 12 bikes, but the year before we got over 75 from this event!

James Hanley and Eagle Scout troop 1615 in Oak Lawn is holding a bike collection for Working Bikes ...

The event will take place at St. Linus Church (Saint Linus Parish, 10300 S. Lawler Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL 60453), with bikes being collected at the west side of the rectory by the garages, after all masses on the weekend of May 19th-20th, from 5:00pm - 6:00pm on Saturday May 19th and from 8:30am - 2:00pm on Sunday May 20th.

If people are unable to take bikes along to the collection on these days, James can arrange pick-ups or drop-off at other times up until June 3rd - please contact him at jhaney5304@gmail.com to make the arrangements.

Bikes of any shape, color or condition are welcome!
