The 2nd Annual National Night Out is being held at Cartwright Park on the corner of Grant Street and Prospect Ave Street in Evanston.

Working Bikes will be attending this event, where we will be collecting bike donations.

National Night Out is a unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). It is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know the neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Hosted by the Cartwright Park Neighborhood Watch, sponsored by Target, contributed to by Union Pizzeria (1245 Chicago Avenue, Evanston) and attended by the Evanston Police Department and Chicago's Working Bikes.

The 11th Annual Summer Safety Fest is being held at the St. Vincent De Paul Center on the corner of W. Webster Avenue and N. Halsted Street in Lincoln Park.

Working Bikes will be attending and have a booth at this event, where we will be collecting bike donations and demonstrating how to fix a flat (punctured) tire (tyre).

Summer Safety Fest is a joint effort between the 43rd Ward Alderman's office and Children's Memorial Hospital. The event is primarily geared towards young children and families. There will be entertainment, such as an act from the Old Town School of Folk Music, games and food from local businesses. The Active Transportation Alliance and City of Chicago Bike Ambassadors will be hosting safety activities and will be passing out and fitting 150 free helmets. It is a great opportunity to engage with young families and neighbors.

The container was filled with 544 used bicycles:
231 used adult bicycles with one or both wheels removed for packing,
313 used children's bicycles, 31 used wheels & 47 used tires.

We will be filling a container bound for the Panamanian Association of Goodwill Industries in Panama this Friday and Saturday from 12 noon until 4pm at 2434 S. Western Avenue in Chicago, cooperating with our partners at Bikes for the World. Pastries, Pizza and comraderie will be in abundance!

These pictures are from the Panamanian Association of Goodwill Industries (Goodwill Panama), which is a well-organized non-profit organization providing skills training and employment to more than 100 people with disabilities.

Goodwill Panama works closely with local Rotary Clubs to oversee and support the bicycle program. These photos illustrate the high degree of organization characteristic of their bicycle repair and marketing program.
